About Us

CG2 specializes in providing owners and designers with quality geotechnical engineering for roadway, pavement, and structure designs. Our expertise spans designing and investigating foundations for buildings, bridges, roadways, retaining walls, pavements, utilities, and project slopes for a multitude of transportation projects in North Carolina. We effectively execute subsurface investigation efforts that maximize efficiency and minimize cost for our clients. Our team has an exceptional performance history of delivering quality products to NCDOT, private owners, municipalities, and other state DOTs. We also provide in-house subsurface investigation capabilities suited for overcoming varying terrain and site access obstacles.

CG2 is properly registered with the North Carolina Office of the Secretary of State and the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors. Our subconsultants are also appropriately registered in North Carolina. In addition, all of our Engineers and Geologists in charge of project work are registered in the State of North Carolina and are in good ethical and professional standing.

Our Team

Rob Kral, PE

Senior Project Manager

A professional engineer with vast transportation industry experience, Rob is responsible for managing CG2’s Transportation program and serves as our Corporate Safety Officer. A managing member of CG2, Rob plays a key role in CG2 and works intensively in project management, geotechnical design, marketing, business operations, and equipment operations. He brings over a decade of experience to these roles and is responsible for proposal preparation, field exploration and evaluation oversight, field and lab data reviews, and the preparation of NCDOT inventory and recommendation reports.

Rob’s extensive engineering experience spans shallow and deep foundation analysis, bearing capacity and settlement calculations, slope stability analysis, retaining wall and pavement design, including dam inspections. He holds a BS and MS degree in Civil Engineering from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He also holds an Airman Certificate as an FAA Remote Pilot with a Small UAS Rating and has an NC Commercial UAS operator permit, in addition to other driving, well-drilling, and engineering certificates. He is licensed in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Rob’s favorite thing about working in CG2 is the freedom of not being restricted by a corporate environment, and the ability to explore exciting ideas and technologies. He also derives great joy from helping his staff achieve their professional goals.

Matt Brewer, PE

Senior Project Manager

Matt is a professional engineer who brings over a decade of experience managing an array of geotechnical and transportation engineering projects to CG2. He is a managing member of CG2 and works extensively in project management, geotechnical design, investigation operations, business operations, equipment operations, and marketing. He is also responsible for client development, design-build pursuits, proposal preparation, and oversight of field exploration and evaluations.

Matt provides engineering analysis following the NCDOT Pavement Design Procedure AASHTO 1993 Method and has engineering analysis experience using the LFRD and ASD Design Methodologies. He holds a BS in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University, is licensed in North and South Carolina, and has acquired several special certifications for well driller and engineering.

Matt’s favorite thing about working for the CG2 is that he gets to work with such an incredible team. Though this company is classified as a small business, the team has proven time and time again, through their work ethic, flexibility, and resilience that they can do big things.

Tyler Wenner, PG

Geologist & Project Manager

With a decade of industry experience, Tyler serves CG2 as a geologist and project manager. In these roles he is responsible for the pursuit of projects, proposal preparation, overseeing field services/evaluations, review of field and laboratory data, and preparation of geotechnical reports. Additionally, Tyler manages small to large-scale commercial construction materials testing, special inspection projects, and geotechnical subsurface explorations for residential, commercial, industrial, municipal, infrastructure, and NCDOT/ SCDOT projects. He also serves as a mentor to junior colleagues across the organization. Tyler graduated Cum Laude from Bloomsburg University with a BS in Geoscience. Tyler enjoys the tight knit group of colleagues at CG2 and the opportunity to work on a variety of interesting and challenging projects.

Patrick Tomasic, GIT

Staff Geologist

As a staff geologist with CG2, Patrick is responsible for geotechnical and transportation projects including roadways, retaining walls, bridges, pavement design, and signal pole investigations. He also frequently assists the project manager and/or senior engineer with proposal preparations, submitting utility locate requests, performing site layouts, directing and overseeing contractor activities, and many other key initiatives. Patrick has both a BS in Geology and a certificate in Hydrogeology and Environmental Geology from East Carolina University. He is also currently pursuing a Masters in Geology from East Carolina. One of his favorite things about working at CG2 is the relationships with his colleagues and getting to experience various geology around the state.

Michael Walko, PE

Principal Engineer

Michael brings over thirty years of experience to his role as principal engineer for CG2. He earned his BS in Civil Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University and is a distinguished expert in his field. He is responsible for providing project management and engineering services to CG2’s transportation clients. Michael has also provided bridge foundation design recommendations for design-build projects throughout North Carolina. He also has strong geotechnical experience in the Coastal Plain, Piedmont, and Mountain areas of North Carolina.

In addition to acting as a principal engineer, he also is a licensed professional engineer in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee, and will be assisting the CG2 team with projects throughout the region.

Kelly de Montbrun, PE

Senior Project Engineer

Kelly is a senior project engineer for CG2 with twelve years of experience on numerous geotechnical and transportation projects. She provides exemplary project management and engineering services to CG2’s industrial, energy, commercial, and transportation clients. Among her many responsibilities are pursuit and proposal preparation, oversight for field explorations and evaluations, review of field and laboratory data, and preparation of geotechnical reports.

Kelly is also experienced in engineering analysis utilizing LRFD and ASD design methodologies to develop geotechnical recommendations. She obtained her BS in Civil Engineering from the University of South Carolina. Kelly is a licensed professional engineer in North and South Carolina.

Pressley Perry, EIT

From boring layout to high-strain dynamic testing data reduction, Pressley is involved in all aspects of CG2 projects. She completed her MS in Geotechnical Engineering in the Fall of 2023 from the University of South Carolina, where she also completed her BS in Civil Engineering. Pressley has achieved her Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification. In addition to her love for working outside and learning about different subsurface investigation technologies, Pressley enjoys getting to know her CG2 colleagues.
