CG2 Exploration, LLC, an associated company of Carolinas Geotechnical Group, PLLC, is in need of a Driller’s Assistant. Our work consists of drill crews of 2 people that travel throughout North Carolina drilling for subsurface explorations for bridges, roadways and buildings. Drilling may include auger drilling, mud rotary drilling, air rotary and diamond bit coring techniques. The work requires driving equipment to jobsite, setup equipment, help Driller drill to certain depths, cleanup equipment, load equipment and drive to next job or office.
Must be able to work in outdoor conditions (heat/cold/rain) and must be able to lift 75 pounds. Our crews typically work 55 to 60 hours per week on a Monday thru Friday schedule.
Essential Role and Responsibilities:
- Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
- Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
- This is an entry level position designed to train the individual in the various aspects of becoming a Driller including equipment maintenance (i.e. augers, bits, etc.) and equipment operation.
- Trained in duties pertaining to soil test borings and rock coring exploration.
- Acts as an assistant to the Driller to help perform routine exploration tasks.
- Drives medium duty trucks to various job sites.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Limited or no experience required
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
- Ability to obtain Medical Card within first 30 days of employment

- The candidate will be involved in all phases of a project including business development, proposal preparation, managing and/or performing field engineering, engineering analysis, report writing, consultation, invoice preparation, and client contact and correspondence.
- Provide oversight in the planning and execution of field exploration and laboratory testing programs.
- Technical analysis and reporting.
- Providing consultation/evaluation for field-related concerns
- Client interaction and performing project management duties
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
- Master’s Degree with a focus in Geotechnical Engineering preferred
- NC PE preferred
- 11+ years of relevant experience on transportation projects
- Experience with NCDOT and/or SCDOT preferred
- Displays strong technical skills in soil mechanics and geotechnical analyses and design
- Display experience with soft ground and high seismic geology
- Must possess intermediate to advanced computer skills (MS Office and relevant technical software required, gINT and MicroStation/ORD are preferred), including the ability to learn various types of company/client software
- Candidate must be able to pass a drug screen, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company’s driving (MVR) policy

Carolinas Geotechnical Group, PLLC (CG2), based out of Charlotte, North Carolina, provides geotechnical engineering services and design to government and private sectors. CG2 is seeking a full-time Staff Professional for on-the road work throughout North Carolina.
- BS in Geology, Civil Engineering, or equivalent degree;
- Geologist-in-Training or Engineer-in-Training certification preferred;
- 0-3 years of relevant experience;
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word with ability to learn commercial software applications required;
- Overnight out of town travel and the ability to work outside normal business hours (i.e., nightwork) required. Anticipate travel 5 days per week or in excess of 90% of the time;
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions;
- Routine lifting required: 40 to 50 lbs.
