Two Kings Casino
The construction of a new casino in Cleveland County necessitated upgrading the existing interchange of Dixon School Road and I-85. The new interchange is being upgraded to a diverging diamond interchange with a set of two-span dual bridges. Each of the bridge end bents was constructed using MSE abutments. CG2 performed all the geotechnical investigations and also prepared the roadway, retaining wall, pavement, and structure recommendations and plans for the project. Our geotechnical scope of work was completed in 2021, and the interchange is currently under construction.

French Broad Paving Asphalt Plant
CG2 was requested to perform a preliminary and a final geotechnical exploration for the proposed French Broad Paving Asphalt Plant. The project site is located at 3807 U.S. 25 in Marshall, North Carolina. Based on available aerial photography, the site serves as a quarry containing large material stockpiles, gravel driveways, and laydown areas. The preliminary subsurface exploration included a total of 9 Standard Penetration Test (SPT) borings within the proposed asphalt plant area. Soil samples collected from split spoon sampling during preliminary drilling operations were selected and tested for Atterberg limit testing (ASTM D 4318), materials finer than #200 sieve testing (ASTM D 1140), and moisture content testing (ASTM D 2216). CG2’s deliverables included our field exploration findings, evaluations of the encountered on-site soils and their suitability for use as structural fill, support of shallow foundations, and support of slab-on-grade, tank, and silo as well as pavements based on our investigative exploration. CG2 also provided the client with recommendations for site preparation and testing during construction activities.

Silgan Containers
This project is located on Camp Creek Road in Lancaster, SC. The proposed construction consists of a 60,000 square foot one-story building with a slab-on-grade floor system. Heavy machine loads and industrial equipment on the floor slabs are anticipated with moderately heavy truck loading of the parking and driveway areas. Six SPT borings were completed and split spoon soil samples were tested for Atterberg limit testing (ASTM D 4318), materials finer than #200 sieve testing (ASTM D 1140), and moisture content testing (ASTM D 2216). CG2’s deliverable report included the results of the subsurface exploration findings, site characterization, engineering analyses, and recommendations for the design construction of the proposed building expansion. CG2 completed the subsurface geotechnical exploration and design recommendations in October 2019.
